Key Responsibities
Procurement Management
- Plan and execute procurement of raw materials, steel, bought-out items, consumables, and engineering components as per production requirements.
- Handle procurement of various steel items from major steel plants.
- Source bought-out railway components for Indian Railways as well as for other MNC’s.
- Develop and maintain a reliable supplier base for critical materials and engineering items.
- Ensure timely procurement to meet production schedules and customer delivery commitments.
- Monitor supplier performance with respect to quality, delivery, cost, and service.
- Regular participation in meetings with OEMs align with marketing and planning and provide update and status of various critical bought out items.
Vendor Development
- Identify and develop new suppliers to improve competitiveness and supply reliability.
- Conduct supplier evaluations and performance reviews.
- Build long-term relationships with strategic suppliers.
- Ensure suppliers comply with quality and commercial requirements.
Import Procurement
- Handle import procurement of steel and engineering items.
- Be well conversant with all import procedures related to procurement of the above items.
- Coordinate with overseas suppliers, freight forwarders, customs agents, and logistics partners.
- Ensure compliance with import documentation, statutory regulations, and customs requirements.
- Monitor import shipments to ensure timely delivery.
Cost Control & Negotiation
- Obtain competitive quotations from suppliers.
- Conduct commercial and technical evaluations of supplier offers.
- Negotiate prices, payment terms, delivery schedules, warranties, and commercial conditions.
- Identify cost reduction opportunities through strategic sourcing and value engineering.
Inventory Coordination
- Coordinate with stores and production departments to maintain optimum inventory levels.
- Avoid stock-outs as well as excess inventory.
- Monitor procurement lead times and material availability.
Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare purchase orders and maintain procurement records.
- Maintain all procurement-related documents in accordance with company procedures.
- Maintain audit-related documents and support internal, customer, and statutory audits.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable statutory requirements.
Coordination
- Coordinate with production, planning, stores, quality, finance, and logistics departments.
- Resolve supplier-related issues regarding quality, delivery, and commercial matters.
- Follow up with suppliers to ensure adherence to committed delivery schedules.
Experience
- 12+ years of experience in purchase, preferably in manufacturing, foundry, railway components, or heavy engineering industries.
- However, if the candidate is good, experience should not be an obstacle.
- Hands-on experience in procurement from big steel plants, and the open market.
- Experience in sourcing bought-out railway components for Indian Railways as well as other MNC’s.
- Experience in handling import procurement and import procedures is essential.
Technical Skills

Key Responsibities

Qualifications Requied
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10–15 years of experience in Quality Assurance within a foundry or heavy engineering manufacturing environment, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
- Strong expertise in implementing, maintaining, and auditing ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems.
- Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor/Internal Auditor (preferred).
- Sound knowledge of foundry manufacturing processes, including melting, moulding, core making, heat treatment, fettling, machining, and casting inspection.
- Hands-on experience in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods, including Dye Penetrant Testing (PT/DP) Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Radiographic Testing (RT) Visual Testing (VT).
- Working knowledge of ASNT standards and certification requirements ASNT Level II certification preferred.
- Experience working with BARC quality requirements and documentation for nuclear or critical application castings is highly desirable.
- Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, GD &T, material specifications, and customer quality requirements.
- Strong understanding of casting defects, metallurgical testing, dimensional inspection, and quality control techniques.
- Experience with quality tools and methodologies such as SPC, MSA, FMEA, APQP, PPAP, Control Plans, CAPA, 8D, 5 Why Analysis, Fishbone Diagram, Pareto Analysis, and Root Cause Analysis.
- Experience in supplier quality management, customer audits, process validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proficient in preparing and reviewing quality documentation, inspection reports, calibration records, audit reports, and compliance documentation.
- Strong leadership, analytical, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Purchase, Stores, and Customer Quality teams.
